WHERE SHOULD MY CHILD PLAY?
This is designed to assist parents in understanding the various youth soccer programs available from CABOSA and the related commitment.
Developmental Soccer
The Association's basic program for children aged 4 to 9 is the Developmental Soccer Program (DSP). It is designed to concentrate on skill development, with weekly practices and games held in a organized environment. We strive for a fun practice time and game time. All fields are at Cargill Soccer Complex in Shreveport.
Recreation
This is the division of recreational soccer for youth aged 4(by July 31st of that year) to 18. It is for players either who are new to soccer, or who approach soccer as a secondary sport, or who may simply enjoy playing a game once a week but do not normally have too much time to practice more than twice. No tryouts. Teams will be formed by school or neighborhood once registration ends. All games are played at Cargill Soccer Complex in Shreveport.
Division One
Division 1 is a skill development level, a step up from recreational soccer and a stepping stone for Premier. Although Division 1 falls under the recreational soccer program, it offers a much higher competitive soccer environment. Players between the ages of 10 and 19 are chosen for teams through a tryout process. USSF licensed coaches will administer the tryouts for their respective age groups. Division 1 teams do not have a set game schedule through CABOSA/SUSC nor is there league play within the state at this time. Game and tournament schedules are set by the coach and/or team manager. The Division 1 State Cup Tournament is played in the spring. A greater time and financial commitment are to be expected. Coaches will expect a higher work ethic and level of dedication out of their players than at the recreational level. The objective of the Division 1 level of play within CABOSA/SUSC is to provide a competitive and challenging environment for players to develop the skills required to succeed in High School and/or Premier soccer.
Competitive Soccer (Premier League)
The Premier soccer program has one goal: to help youth players achieve their maximum playing potenaital both individually and as a team member. Premier players are committed to soccer as their number one sport of choice. The work hard to achieve personal and team goals by mastering the essential soccer requirements of excellent technique, top physical conditioning, game tactics and a positive mental attitude.
This is the competitive soccer component of CABOSA and is offered through the SHREVEPORT UNITED SOCCER CLUB for all youth ages, U11 to U18; It's designed for players willing to commit at least three days a week to soccer, for practice and games. Our SU Premier coaches hold certain licenses and are paid to coach these teams. Teams participate in State Premier and Regional leagues. In addition, teams typically attend either one or two away and two local tournaments. Teams are formed in August following tryouts in May. The Fall season usually extends into November, and the Spring season into May/June. Players must make a committment to be a good teammate, work hard, and attend practices and games.
